A Star is Born!  Actually a number of new stars might emerge, assuming our Mountain Meadows cast of extras will be discovered and signed to movie contracts this year.  What fun it was to host the filming of Redwood Highway here last fall. This movie should attract a considerable audience among people 55 and over. It will be a character-driven story of a retirement community resident (played by Shirley Knight) and her quest to hike the beautiful route from here to the Coast, repairing family relationships along the way.

Besides launching new movie careers, we got a close-up view of how movies are made, and the thrill of being part of the action as scenes were filmed in and around our clubhouse, dining room, and spa. Even though they were telling the story of a “senior,” working with us seemed to be a learning experience for some of the crew members, who said they were impressed with the spirit of our community–especially our energy level, which genuinely surprised them. We trust this positive and realistic view of senior life will be reflected in the final product.

The filmmakers say they have plans to show an advance version of Redwood Highway at the Ashland Independent Film Festival next April, and the finished film will be released next summer, with special screenings at many senior communities across the country. Watch for it!
