Chico has an all-American, oak-shaded downtown and a sizable university making it a social and cultural hub with good restaurants, coffeehouses, nightclubs, bars and entertainment venues. The City of Chico is rich in Native American and Gold Rush history. General John Bidwell was among several miners who discovered gold on the Feather River. The Bidwell Mansion and sprawling Bidwell Park are his legacy to the town. Population: As of the 2010 census, the population was 86,187.

Transportation:Chico Municipal Airport is served by United Express, and the North Valley Shuttle provides daily service to Sacramento International Airport. Amtraks Coast Starlighter stops here. Chico was once named "America's Best Bike Town" by Bicycle magazine, and pedicabs are an interesting form of transportation commonly available downtown during the evenings.
Travel and tourism: Retirees can beat the summertime heat by taking a dip in one of the swimming holes in shady Bidwell Park, or by tubing down the Sacramento River. Sipping a cold beer at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, near downtown, is yet another warm weather treat.
