Mobile Alabama
Mobile is located on the delta of the Mobile River and Mobile Bay, on the central Gulf Coast. Mobile is the only seaport in Alabama. It was the first city to host Mardi Gras in 1703, at least two decades before New Orleans joined the party. Climate: Mobile has hot, humid summers and mild, rainy winters. The area gets 62 inches of rain per year, but no snow.
Cost of living: Mobile's cost of living is 12% lower than the U.S. average.
Housing costs: Retirement housing is very affordable here, where the median home cost in Mobile is $114,700.
Colleges and Universities: The University of South Alabama's Institute for Learning in Retirement is called Odyssey USA. This program is composed of a community of learners with inquisitive minds and a love of lifelong learning.
Transportation:Mobile Regional Airport has direct connections to five major hub airports. Public transportation is provided by the Wave Transit System which features buses with 18 fixed routes.
Travel and tourism: The Port City is recognized worldwide for having many unique attractions such as the USS ALABAMA Battleship, exciting outdoor adventures, fresh delicious seafood, Delta excursions, fascinating museums, twenty-one world-class golf courses, white sandy beaches, beautiful historic homes, and the newest attraction, 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center.
