Sedona Arizona

One of the most scenic places in the Southwest, Sedona could enter a geography beauty contest and hold its own against the national parks with its spindly towers, grand buttes and flat-topped mesas carved in crimson sandstone. The discovery of energy ‘vortexes’ here in the 1980s turned this once modest settlement into a bustling New Age destination with its combination of mysticism and red-rock majesty. Population: 10,031 as of the 2010 census.

Climate: Sedona has a temperate high desert climate with 18 inches of rain per year and 4 inches of snowfall on average.

Cost of living: The cost of living in Sedona is 12% greater than the national average.

Housing costs: Housing, however, is 144% greater than the national average. The median cost of a retirement home in Sedona will be around $394,800.

Colleges and Universities: The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Sedona is a self-directed membership organization within Yavapai College, created to meet the needs and interests of retirement-age people. Members can expect lively discussion, experiential opportunities in personal growth, and cultural and environmental explorations for a rich, continuing educational experience.

Transportation:The Sedona-Phoenix runs between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Sedona eight times daily. There is a free city-run Sedona Roadrunner (with trolleys) for local transportation.

Travel and tourism: A very interesting scene awaits the retiree in Sedona where there are all sorts of alternative medicine practices along with art galleries, gourmet restaurants and top-end resorts, not to mention numerous businesses available to read (and photograph) your aura.
